Timone, Richard F. (Father)

Jesuit Father Richard F. Timone died March 23, 2014. Born on June 9, 1931, to Judge George and Virginia (Fletcher) Timone of the upper west side of Manhattan, Fr. Timone graduated from Manhattan College High School in 1949. He then attended St. Jerome College in Waterloo Canada for one year before entering the Society of Jesus at St. Andrew-on-Hudson in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.

In 1954, Fr. Timone studied philosophy first at Bellarmine College in Plattsburgh, N.Y., for one year and then in Loyola Seminary in Shrub Oak, N.Y. He completed his philosophical studies in 1957 and moved to St. Xavier High School in Manhattan to teach Latin and mathematics.

In 1961 Fr. Timone moved to Woodstock College in Maryland to study theology. After Cardinal Spellman ordained him to the priesthood in the Fordham University Church and he completed his 4th year of theology, Fr. Timone went to Auriesville, N.Y., for his tertianship year.

In 1966 Fr. Timone went to St. Peter’s Prep in Jersey City where he taught mathematics and religion until 1972 when he became a pastoral minister and an associate pastor in St. Peter’s Church. He served the parish in this capacity until 1989. That year he took a sabbatical at the Jesuit Seminary and Mission Bureau in Manhattan.

In 1990, Fr. Timone came to Murray-Weigel Hall as a resident while he worked in various parishes in the New York area. He did this until, because of sickness, he was assigned to the infirmary in Murray-Weigel. Fr. Timone continued then to pray for the Society of Jesus and for the Church.

Because of the need for special treatment, Fr. Timone moved to The Kateri Residence in Manhattan, just ten blocks from where he grew up. When Kateri was sold in 2012, Fr. Timone moved to Mary Manning Walsh Home, where he died.
