Father Peter Filice, S.J., teacher, administrator, mentor, and spiritual director, died on Tuesday, October 1, in El Camino Hospital in Los Gatos, after a short illness. He was 73.
Born in San Jose and raised in Gilroy, Fr. Filice graduated from Bellarmine Prep and entered the Society at Los Gatos in 1958. As a scholastic, he taught at Loyola High School. His organizational skills were recognized and after ordination, he assumed a variety of ministerial roles on the Jesuit Community and Province level: Rector and Superior, Minister and Property Administrator, and twice, Executive Assistant to the Provincial.
Pastoral work included campus ministry positions at St. Ignatius Prep and Santa Clara University. From 2006-2012 he served as Superior of the Loyola High School Jesuit Community and co-director of the school’s Adult Ignatian Spirituality program. He was most recently a member of the pastoral staff at the Jesuit Retreat Center in Los Altos.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, October 7, 7:30 p.m., at the Mission Church, Santa Clara University campus, 500 El Camino Real, Santa Clara.

February 3, 2020 — Father Andrew B. Garcia, SJ, professed Final Vows as a full member of the Society of Jesus on the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord at the 9:30 AM Mass at Most Holy Trinity Parish, San Jose, California.
