Father Thomas F. McCormick, S.J., died January 1 in St. Mary’s Hospital in San Francisco while recovering from extensive back surgery performed several days earlier. He was 72 years old. Born in Oakland, California, on February 15, 1937, Tom entered the Society of Jesus at Sacred Heart Novitiate in Los Gatos on August 14, 1954. He pronounced final vows on July 31, 1978, at the Jesuit Novitiate in Montecito, California. May he rest in peace! All members of the California Province and those applied to it are to offer or celebrate one first intention Mass and members of the Jesuit Community at Sacred Heart Jesuit Center and those attached to it but living elsewhere (cf. 2010 Catalogus USA, pgs. 36-39) are to offer or celebrate one additional first intention Mass for the repose of Tom’s soul. Because Tom served the Province as Vice-Provincial for Formation, additional suffrages are recommended per Society custom.
