Our Work

Faith Doing Justice

Programs:

The Jesuits West CORE Initiative: Collaborative Organizing for Racial Equity, or CORE, is a province-wide project of Jesuits West. The CORE toolkit is an effort to provide all apostolates with resources to begin, advance or continue the work for racial equity within our institutions and to foster collaboration between apostolates to act for racial justice in our wider community. The toolkit offers materials and methods to do the work of racial justice, including theological reflections, tools for public action and resources for personal development and institutional change work.

The Ignite Fellowship in Youth Organizing: This collaborative summer training from Loyola High School, Brophy College Prep, Cristo Rey San Jose, Seattle Prep, Cristo Rey Sacramento, Jesuit High Sacramento and Sacred Heart Nativity trains youth to advocate for a better world.

The Faith Doing Justice Discernment Series: This is the series that launched our CORE Initiative. Over 270 Jesuits, teachers, students, parishioners, staff and spiritual leaders, from across the Jesuit network, spent five months discerning their common call to serve a faith that does justice. You can learn more about the process here. Want to get in touch with your local Discernment Team? Email afox@jesuits.org.

Wrestling with Whiteness Training for White Leaders: A four-session training program for while people interested in wrestling with what it means to show up for racial justice in the context of white identity. We use the tools of Ignatian spirituality to understand how we get free to love in the context of a society trapped in narratives and structures of racism.

The Faith Doing Justice Cohort: An advanced learning space for leaders in the Jesuits West community who want to deepen their skills, build relationships and do communal thinking about organizing in Jesuit ministries. Applications open this summer; email afox@jesuits.org for more information.

Partners: Our work at Jesuits West is deeply embedded in the work of our ministries, but we also work with key partners inside and outside the Jesuit network.

Jesuit Conference Office for Justice and Ecology (OJE): The coordinating office for Jesuit ministries in the U.S. and Canada for issues related to immigration, criminal justice, ecology and economic justice issues. OJE also serves as the key convener between the five Provinces in our conference to foster collaboration, dialogue and joint advocacy.

Faith in Action: A Jesuit-founded interfaith community organizing network, Faith in Action helps train Ignatian ministries in faith-based community organizing and helps us connect to interfaith partners leading movements for justice.

The Ignatian Solidarity Network networks, educates and forms advocates for social justice animated by the spirituality of St. Ignatius of Loyola and the witness of the Jesuit martyrs of El Salvador and their companions.

The Social Justice and Ecology Secretariat of the Society of Jesus connects Jesuit ministries across the globe in their common journey toward justice and reconciliation.
