The Jesuit Provincials of Canada and the United States Commit to Studying the History of Indigenous Boarding Schools
We write to express our deep sorrow at the recent discoveries of unmarked graves of Indigenous children at the sites of several former boarding schools in Canada. We grieve deeply the loss of human life and culture that took place at such schools, both in Canada and the United States, and we acknowledge that the Society of Jesus participated in that history.
Join Jesuits West as We Celebrate First Vows
After two years of learning to live, serve and pray as Jesuit novices, Chris Castaneda, SJ, Kevin Lee, SJ, and José Abrham Oros Ponce, SJ, will profess first vows of poverty, chastity and obedience on August 14 at Sacred Heart Chapel at Loyola Marymount University.
A Heartfelt Tribute Threaded with Love
Cinco de Mayo, May 5, was an exceptionally beautiful day at the Jesuit West Province’s retirement/health care center in Los Gatos, California. The Jesuits there were in a festive mood. Covid-19 had robbed these men of eight of their brother Jesuits, and after months of mourning, isolating and social distancing, it felt good to sit in the sunshine to celebrate something.
Celebrating the Ignatian Year
The Society of Jesus worldwide will celebrate an Ignatian Year from 2021-2022, beginning May 20, 2021, exactly 500 years after St. Ignatius was wounded by a cannonball during the Battle of Pamplona. During his long convalescence following the injury, Ignatius converted to a life of holiness.
Introducing Jesuits West’s 2021 Ordinands
In June 2021, five members of the Jesuits West Province will be ordained to the priesthood. These five Jesuits—Xavier Benavides, John Guyol, Jack Krouse, Brad Mills and Martin Ngo—have been in Jesuit Formation for between 10-12 years in preparation for their ordination. We invite you to get to know them.
