July 6, 2022 — Fr. Andrew Rodriguez, SJ, will serve as the next director of novices for the Jesuits West Province. In announcing the news, Fr. Sean Carroll, SJ, provincial of Jesuits West, said that his appointment of Fr. Rodriguez had been approved by Jesuit Superior General Arturo Sosa, SJ. Fr. Rodriguez will begin his service as novice director and superior of the Jesuit Novitiate of the Three Companions in Culver City, California, on July 31, the feast of St. Ignatius of Loyola. On that same day, he will profess his final vows in the Society of Jesus at a Mass in the novitiate’s chapel.

Fr. Rodriguez entered the Society of Jesus in 2006. After first studies at Loyola University Chicago, he taught social studies and religion at St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco. Following theological studies at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley, he was ordained at St. Aloysius Church in Spokane in 2016. He was then assigned to the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos, where he served as a retreat and spiritual director for the last six years. He recently completed tertianship, the final stage of Jesuit formation, in Portland.

“We owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Fr. Steve Corder, SJ, who completes his ninth year as director of novices and superior of the Jesuit Novitiate, first for the combined California and Oregon Provinces, and then for Jesuits West. Steve has served with great generosity, and he has provided wonderful care for our men, all for which we are most grateful,” said Fr. Carroll. “Please join me in praying for Andrew as he prepares for this critical new mission. I am deeply thankful for his availability and generous service to the Society and our province.”
