August 9, 2021 — After two years of learning to live, serve and pray as Jesuit novices, Chris Castaneda, SJ, Kevin Lee, SJ, and José Abrham Oros Ponce, SJ, will profess first vows of poverty, chastity and obedience on August 14 at Sacred Heart Chapel at Loyola Marymount University.

“There’s an excitement of what’s to come and not what we can do, but what God’s grace can do through us going forward,” said Castaneda.

“Being a part of the Jesuit mission—this is what I want to do with my life. It’s a concrete step,” Lee said.

Given the difficult time in our country and the world, Oros Ponce is looking forward to the First Vows Mass as an occasion to celebrate for the Society of Jesus and the wider Church. “I can’t imagine anywhere else I’d rather be.”
