As Roman Catholic Community, Sacred Heart Parish is faithful to Jesus’ teachings and our sacred Catholic tradition. Our devotion to the Lord comes from the liturgy, the sacraments and multiethnic people who embrace our community and welcome all newcomers.
As far back as the late 18th century, Chief Shining Shirt of the Pend d’Oreille tribe in Mission Valley, Montana, had visions that one day men would come in black robes and teach important new truths about religion. That prophecy was fulfilled when, at the urging of Native people, Fr. Peter DeSmet, a Belgian Jesuit, worked to establish missions with the Flatheads in 1841, the Coeur d’Alenes in 1842, the Kalispels in 1844 and the Colviles in 1845.
The Newman Center Catholic Community at UC San Diego came into existence with the founding of the University in 1966.

March 20, 2020 — Many U.S. dioceses have suspended Mass during the coronavirus pandemic and dispensed Catholics from their Sunday obligation, but Jesuits West parishes are still finding ways to help people practice their faith virtually during these uncertain times.
February 18, 2020 — When Fr. Arturo Sosa, SJ, the leader of the Society of Jesus, made his first trip as Superior General to the Jesuits West Province from Jan. 31 to Feb. 13, he spent part of his first full day with the Novices in Culver City, California.
November 1, 2019 — Fr. John Mossi, SJ, who serves in the Jesuits West Advancement Office, is one of three people who will be honored by Ignatians West for outstanding service in ministry and church life on November 10.
Ignatian spirituality helps people discover God working in their daily lives. It invites each to a deeper knowledge of God’s love for them and into greater freedom to follow God’s call. The gift of Ignatian spirituality is to find ourselves more engaged in the world in a prayerful way.
